George Jackunski is one of the Tug Hill’s famous residents. George was a running blacksmith, if such a profession could be ascribed. As a boy, he excelled at running, and at some point in life he learned the art of blacksmithing. s an adult, he was often seen running through the woods to farms and logging crews to shoe horses and fix iron implements. While running, George would carry his tools in his sack. People would joke that he would also carry his anvil. One year, George made such a scene running around the track at the Lewis County Fair that the fair hosted a Running George attraction for many years to come. Later in life, George took up biking to get around, which he thought of simply as “running in place.”
